The Walmart Woman who changed my life.

Me and my mom went to Walmart to get some treats. Once we got our treats we went and got into this line behind a blonde lady who looked like a barbie doll. She was so pretty, but as I looked at her pile of stuff I regretted getting in line behind her because I thought it would take so long. Now I'm glad that I got in line behind her. She was buying all these shirts for a dollar, there we at least like 30 shirts. I said "Wow! that's a lot of shirts!" She said "Yeah but anytime I see a deal I jump at it." She then proceeded to tell me and my mom about how she brings these shirts to the homeless. She told us that when she brings the clothes to the shelter that the people are so greatful! They are so excited to be able to get these clothes because they have so little. She told us about how they like to keep the tags on because it shows that they have new clothes. After that my heart sank. I am constantly feeling so horrible for those less fortunate than me. I realize that my family may not be doing to great at the moment, but hey, we're not on the streets, we have food for every meal, we have clothes that are not worn out, and we have family that loves and cares about us. There are people out there who lack one if not more of these blessings. The check out girl was having a hard time because first each shirt was going in as 3 dollars instead of 1 and then the ladies check wouldn't go through. Because there was time the lady then told us a few stories. She told us about a friend that owns a store and after every line of clothes she orders she gives the extras to her and she passes them on to these homeless people. She said that she had three pairs of designer jeans size 43 or something like that. As she was driving to the shelter she saw a boy around the age of 19 that looked like a size 43. She pulled over and asked him what his pant size was. (yeah, a weird question) He was scared of her, she said that these people are more scared of us than we are of them. He said he didn't have money to buy pants. She told him about the pants and he questioned her definition of free. She reassured him that she would give them to him for no cost. turns out that this boy was that exact size. He took the pants and started crying, he told her about the life that he has had. He said that his mother died and his father left them when he was just a young little boy. He didn't have a home or a family. He had the same pants for the longest time because the clothes donated were never big enough for him. His pants were worn and had holes all up and down them. She just possibly changed his life. She then told us of a woman that was stuck with a bunch of men at the shelter. This woman was high and so the walmart lady told her "I don't bring people home who are on drugs. I'll come back tomorrow and if you are completely clean I will take you to my home to stay the night." The next day she went back to the shelter and the woman was not there, however just as the walmart lady was about to leave the woman came running up. She told her that she was clean, she said it was the hardest thing she'd ever done that people were offering her free crack right and left. The walmart lady brought her in and kept her there for a couple of weeks. She got her cleaned up and got her new clothes. Because of the walmart lady this woman was accepted back into her parents home, met a wonderful man, has been completely clean for quite sometime, and is now getting married. She called the walmart lady and asked her to be her maid of honor because without her none of that would've EVER happened.
All this just reminded me about how you never know when someone needs your help. How you never know whose life you can change and who needs you. I can't wait to go out there and start collecting clothes for these homeless people. Yes, some may argue that they don't want to help people out because they put themselves in that situation, which is true. Yes they may be addicted to drugs and have other issues. But how are they ever going to have a decent life, and get out of all that they are trapped in if they don't get help and feel love. We are forgiven for our sins and we need to look past others sins. We can help change someones life. Would you ever give that chance up? The feeling of helping someone in need is priceless and it is what we should be doing with our lives. Instead of going to walmart for a treat maybe spend that dollar or two on a shirt, a toy or something else that could benifit someone in need. Who knows, maybe the sacrifice of your sweet tooth could help delay or even stop the sacrifice of ones life.
